Since the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs on the American market, a shock wave has spread in the ranks of traditional finance. Bitcoin, once considered an infrequent option, is now recognized as a "legitimate financial instrument". This transformation is largely anticipated by companies such as MicroStrategy, which holds 226,300 BTC (or $15 billion) and represents more than 1% of the total supply limited to 21 million units.

Michael Saylor, founder of MicroStrategy, positions himself as a Bitcoin guru. He even evokes "economic immortality" thanks to the holding of BTC. What if the bull run started sooner than expected and we're now back on track with the original timeline?

Based on previous cycles, Delphi predicted BTC hitting its previous ATH in Q4 2024 after a two-year bear market.

Yet, we passed it in Q1'24 thanks to the BTC ETF!

If that's the case, expect BTC to rally again and hit a new ATH by Q4 2025.

To me, this is one of the most exciting areas of development in crypto today, and that’s why my curiosity was piqued when I recently came across MagicBlock Engine.

MagicBlock is a game engine that’s innovated an Ephemeral Rollups architecture for powering flexible and performant onchain games on Solana.

I think MagicBlock is an interesting look into what's to come in the Solana gaming scene, so let’s catch you up on all the basics.

What Is MagicBlock?
MagicBlock is a gaming framework built on top of Solana, designed to facilitate the development of fully onchain games and apps.

Recently, MagicBlock Engine showcased its capabilities at an a16zcrypto Demo Day event.

The demo featured a real-time, fully onchain game deployed entirely on Solana, and two clients played the game simultaneously with no lag thanks to the MagicBlock’s ability to delegate accounts into fast Solana validators.

What Are Ephemeral Rollups?
MagicBlock extends Solana's capabilities by introducing Ephemeral Rollups (ERs), which are designed to efficiently facilitate state transitions without fragmenting a game’s state.

MagicBlock’s Other Main Features

⚡️ BOLT — A framework that uses the Entity Component System (ECS) pattern to streamline the development of onchain games. It allows developers to quickly create modular, reusable, and extendable game components and logic.

🪪 SOAR — SOAR stands for Solana Onchain Achievement & Ranking. This reputation system lets developers readily define achievements based on onchain activities, track and display user rankings, and deploy rewards.

🔑 Session keys — MagicBlock recently helped add support for session keys in the Solana Unity SDK, making it easier for its game devs to eliminate the need for repeated wallet popups during frequent in-game interactions in a secure fashion.

MagicBlock’s angle is to bypass these fragmentation issues by keeping assets on mainnet Solana, thus maintaining the possibility for atomic composability, while still achieving scalability with ERs. This way you get high throughput, customizable runtimes, and the ability for games and apps to seamlessly interact without needing interoperability solutions.

What to Watch Going Forward?
1. MagicBlock is new and still rearing up. Which onchain game will be the first to officially use this engine?

2. The recent MagicBlock demo achieved 50ms latency, which is competitive with modern gaming standards. Can we expect further optimizations that bring this latency even lower for even better real-time gameplay?

3. Earlier this year, Parallel announced its AI game Colony would be based on Solana. Could the Parallel team adopt MagicBlock Engine to meet its infrastructure needs here?

4. With MagicBlock maintaining assets on the Solana mainnet, developers have the potential for atomic composability. What use cases will emerge from this capability?

5. Onchain games benefit greatly from user-generated content (UGC) and user-generated logic (UGL). Will the SOAR system be used to incentivize these sorts of creations?

The Bottom Line

Remember the days when crypto was a niche plaything for cypherpunks? Those days are well over.

In the first half of 2024, crypto broke through to the mainstream with a vengeance.

The turning point was the long-awaited approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January. Suddenly, Wall Street had a comfortable on-ramp to crypto, and they took it in a big way. Eleven ETFs launched in one day, and volumes broke records.

And it didn’t stop at Bitcoin. The SEC finally greenlit eight spot ETH ETFs in May, further validating the entire crypto ecosystem, and opening the door for even broader institutional adoption.

2️⃣ Crypto Adoption Accelerating
Crypto adoption is accelerating at a remarkable pace. The number of active users across blockchains is up big time, hitting an all-time high of 42.92 million active addresses in April.

Another factor is the resurgence of DeFi. DeFi activity and mindshare are on the rise again, signaling a renewed interest and activity onchain, one that's moving beyond simple speculation to perhaps some real-world utility, like in the form of stablecoins for payments and asset tokenization for RWAs such as government securities.

The momentum is clear: more people are coming onchain, and they're finding more reasons to stay.

3️⃣ Ethereum Still Dominant, But Solana Rising
Ethereum remains the dominant force in crypto. Over 60% of the total value locked in DeFi sits on Ethereum, a testament to the lindy ecosystem, which acts as a foundation for countless applications and chains.

This dominance is not just a matter of capital but also technological progress on the roadmap. Ethereum is scaling through L2s like Base who have seen robust adoption this year, and thanks to the most recent Dencun upgrade, offer users significantly lowered gas fees.

Moreover, Solana’s innovation engine is running hot. Tech advancements like zk-compression and user-friendly features like Blinks are setting the stage for broader adoption, and we can see that Solana’s network effects are taking root in real time.

Make no mistake: Ethereum isn't going anywhere. Its established network effects and vast developer community ensure its continued importance in crypto. But Solana's impressive strides can't be ignored. Both ecosystems are thriving, each in its unique way. This parallel adoption is a win for crypto users, as it accelerates innovations and drives the entire industry forward.

This is what Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, thinks.

He says the Japanese banking system is in deep trouble and the consequences will only drive up the bitcoin and cryptocurrency markets.

“You all know what this means for bitcoin and cryptocurrency… which is why I thought it was necessary to alert readers to another avenue of stealth money printing.”

This month, Japan's fifth-largest bank, Norinchukin, confirmed plans to sell $63 billion in U.S. and European bonds by March 2025.

According to Hayes, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as Japanese banks hold a total of "$850 billion in foreign bonds until 2022", including "nearly $450 billion in 'American bonds'.

What is OP_CAT?
Okay, so why is this seemingly random opcode so controversial? OP_CAT, or "Operation Concatenate" is an opcode in Bitcoin's scripting language that allows for the concatenation of two data elements.

Initially proposed by Satoshi Nakamoto, OP_CAT was disabled in 2010 due to security concerns related to its original implementation, specifically potential denial-of-service (DoS) attacks caused by unbounded memory usage.

The introduction of the Taproot upgrade in 2021 has mitigated these original concerns. Taproot enforces a maximum stack element size of 520 bytes, addressing the memory usage issue that led to OP_CAT's deactivation. With this security improvement and resurgent Bitcoin development interest, thanks to Ordinals and Runes, a movement to reintroduce OP_CAT to enhance Bitcoin's scripting capabilities is gaining steam, aiming to put more complex transaction capabilities in reach.

And yes, the FED has really hampered our plans.

For the moment cryptos are under great bearish pressure from the FOMC. But the S&P500 and NASDAQ are holding up. But be careful because if they start to correct it, we'll pay twice as much.

Afterwards, we can decorrelate this summer thanks to the ETH SPOT ETF but not sure...

So yes I am Bullish in the medium and long term as explained in previous tweets but in the short term I don't like it at all.
